Why You Have to Try

I don’t think ideas are on accident. I don’t think curiosity is by chance. I don’t think you have this invisible tug pulling on you to look over there and come over here… for no reason.

I also don’t think every idea, curiosity, pull & tug is your life calling.

I don’t think every nudge is meant for you but I do think you’re supposed to follow it.
I do think it’s placed there for a reason. I do think you’re supposed to open whatever door that path of curiosity leads you to, just to see what’s behind it.

I do think you’re supposed to walk in and stay a while, mingle a bit, sip a drink and immerse yourself in the party. You may just stop by to say hi to everyone, take a lap and then sneak out the back door… or you may stay and dance a while. But regardless, you’re absolutely supposed to show up. Not cause you don’t wanna miss out on the party but because you’ll never know what kind of people you like to talk to, dancing you like to participate in, and drinks you like to sip on- if you don’t.

I don’t think every idea, curiosity, pull & tug is your life calling.
But I do think you have to try.

Not the half-assed, peek through the window, text a friend and ask who’s there before you consider coming type of try. But like the walk through the door, grab a drink and hit the dance floor no matter who the F is there kind of try.

If you eventually need to slip out the back door and try a new party— or just head on home— that’s ok too. But I don’t think you’re led there by accident.

I don’t think ideas are on accident. I don’t think curiosity is by chance. I don’t think you have this invisible tug pulling on you to look over there and come over here… for no reason.
I think you’re supposed to follow them. All of them- one by one. Some of them will invite you to stay awhile and some of them you’ll say “so nice to meet you” and never return. But you have to try. You have to learn. You have to, if nothing else, find out if it’s meant for you. You can’t stand outside the door in fear anymore. You can’t worry about what everyone else is wearing and if your outfit is too fancy or casual enough. You just gotta show up. Try it on. Maybe it fits, maybe it doesn’t.

Either way, who cares. At least you showed up. At least you tried. At least you gave it a freakin' whole-hearted shot. At least now you know. Without a shadow of a doubt.

At least you danced.
